SHANGLA / PESHAWAR:

A new spell of torrential rain hit Khyber-Pakthunkhwa on Saturday and is expected to last till April 3, said officials of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

A westerly wave from the Arabian Sea entered the upper areas of the country, including K-P, via Northern Balochistan. It is causing sporadic rain accompanied with hail and thunderstorms. Peshawar received 4mm of rainfall on Saturday, while Kalam received 27mm, Chitral 24mm and Dir 23mm. The weather system caused a drop in temperatures across the province including the provincial capital.

The PMD officials said the periodic widespread rain would continue over the next 24 hours. Stream levels have risen in areas of Shangla district due to the heavy rain. Some landslides were reported, but fortunately there was no loss of life.
